Two Bowls

I live in one of the world’s great hardwood forests. Making furniture and bowls from this abundance is one of the great joys of my life. In the midst of an earthshaking election, continued savagery in beautiful lands around the world, and the heartaches of ill health and homelessness all around us, I find renewal in the beauty of the wood. I just wanted to share two new ventures with my bowls. The first is an ash bowl dyed blue, with a liming wax finish. Our white ash is being killed by the emerald ash borer, so claiming this wood for an enduring object of usefulness and beauty is especially important. The other is an experiment—a walnut bowl with a center bowl or holder for salsa or dip, with a ring to house chips and munchies. An inlay of turquoise embellishes the side. They are both about 11 inches in diameter and four inches high.
