Sylvia saw the design for this in a recent edition of Fine Woodworking. (“Modular Shelf System,” by Charlie Peterson, No. 315, pp. 224–31.) She asked if I might draw from it to make a shelving unit for her studio to display some of her pieces and other items. With only minor adjustments, I came up with this piece. Two of the boards are ambrosia maple. The rest are cherry, all of them drawn from my stash in my wood shed. With the exception of two shelves that are anchored to the wall, the rest are adjustable, making it amenable to a number of her art pieces. Engagement with wood continues to be a source of much enjoyment for me, especially in a time when so much of our life is estranged from the goods of the earth, the beauty of human work, and the sustaining memories anchored in objects of beauty.
From the side you can see how the weight of the shelves is resting solely on the three uprights. The brackets holding the unit against the wall are fairly well concealed from the average eye.
The creative mind keeps ticking and the workmanship beautifully done.
I love beautiful woodwork and yours is outstanding. What a great talent you have.
Bill, This piece of furniture is truly a work of art. The wood is rich in texture and color. Thank you for sharing!! Jayne
