East Asheville Performance

Barbara Bates Smith and I presented our dramatic readings from Red Clay, Blood River at the East Asheville Community Center on Sunday, May 17.

We were joined by Geri Littlejohn, who has been making and playing Native American flutes for 15 years. In her words, the flutes “give voice to the deepest part of ourselves.” Weaving a variety of flute sounds into the performance helped audience members experience Earth’s voice, the anguish and hope of Thembinkosi, and the deep search for memory and reconciliation.

Over thirty people attended from around the corner and over the mountains.
